Kano Boosts Sesame Production with 7,000 MTs Increase

The Benefits of Sesame Seeds

In Kano, a newly established sesame hulling plant by Adventure Commodity Limited is set to transform the state’s sesame production and export landscape. Delivering a speech at the plant’s inauguration on Monday, General Manager Sheeju Prabhakaran highlighted the plant’s impact on employment and product quality in the region.

“The newly established sesame hulling plant represents a significant milestone as it is poised to increase the sesame seed processing capacity by 7,000 MTs per year. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the plant will enable efficient and high-quality sesame hulling, meeting the growing demand for premium hulled sesame seeds in international markets such as the USA, Europe, and Asia,” he said.

For years, the lack of such facilities limited Kano’s sesame export potential. However, this new plant not only enhances processing capacity but also supports local farmers by boosting production output and driving sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.

“The facility has been built to comply with international standards for food manufacturing and utilise state-of-the-art technologies, including dry hulling and colour sorting,” Prabhakaran added.
“A full quality assurance program has been implemented, and extensive training and monitoring programs are in place to ensure that products comply with stringent quality standards, providing full traceability from the farm through production and delivery.”

Prabhakaran expressed optimism about the facility’s potential:
“We are thrilled to launch this new facility, which aligns with our long-term mission to deliver the finest quality sesame seeds to our global clients. This investment not only enhances our export capabilities but also creates new opportunities for local farmers by providing a stable market for their produce.”

The plant’s opening is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including over 200 direct and 100 indirect jobs for the local community.

The event was attended by state government officials, sesame production stakeholders, and representatives of the Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM). Nasiru Inuwa, representing NEXIM’s Managing Director, acknowledged the importance of such investments in strengthening the agricultural value chain in Nigeria.

The new plant stands as a beacon of progress for Kano’s sesame industry, promising increased export quality, expanded job opportunities, and long-term economic benefits for the region.
